Left4Dead2
Well, I’ve always been a big gamer until recent years. I’ve been gaming since Duke Nuke Em, Doom and Mechwarrior (version 1 on EGA graphics) came out. Around 1996 we formed a clan called Texas Gamers Anonymous, based in the Dallas, TX area. We played on and off for many years together, and held LAN parties as often as we could, playing many many different titles.
I won’t go into our history that much in this article, but it is worth mentioning as I still game with some of these guys from time to time, and they would all tell you there is nothing like gaming with TGA for an entire weekend. Our latest efforts were based on Battlefield 1942, the game that sparked a lot of add-ons, and the world of Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat, Battlefield Vietnam and eventually Battlefield 2, which is a more arcade feeling version of Desert Combat, made with the help of Desert Combat developers. We played cooperatively against the forces of evil across the internet, and we took names and killed em all.
I picked up Left4Dead2 on a Black Friday special over at Steam. I never did get a chance to play the first of this series, Left4Dead, but always heard good, addictive things about it. So this is my first experience of this game type, let me be clear. Before L4D2 demo, I tried out Killing Floor demo. I have to say, I didn’t care for it much, and if L4D was going to be anything like that, I honestly didn’t care for it. My experience was the opposite. The AI is so life like in L4D2, I was hooked immediately. Plus the gameplay adds a lot to the experience. 4 survivors vs. a world of undead, and these undead don’t move around like you saw on Return of the Living Dead or anything, the can MOVE. In this version are Spitters that spit burning acid on you, and the ground around you, Boomers that spit goo on you and explode, Jockey’s that are a bunch of head humpers that steer your character away from everything, including safety, Chargers that will take you down, Smokers that can incapacitate you, Hunters that can fuck you up, and Witches, that can REALLY fuck you up.
Some of the weapons you have at your disposal, shotguns, combat shotguns, M-16’s, rifles of many kinds, pistols or dual pistols, swords, machete’s, axes, chain saws, baseball bats, guitars, frying pans, the list goes on. The melee weapons, such as swords are nice for up close and personal combat. You can slice your way through hordes of these zombies with a good sword or machete. Anyway, my point for this whole article, check out some of the pics:
