Hidden Windows Password

Filed under: Technical — admin @ 8:39 pm

I personally like to boot my home computer up and not have to mess with typing in a password.  I also like to set up my client’s (of friend’s) computers the same way, but I still need a password on their account in order to help them via Remote Desktop under their profile when things come up.  Windows asks you to create a user account and assign a password, this is typically what I do during setup, but if not you can always create the account after the fact too.  If you’re reading this, you should know how to do this, but if not, just comment and I’ll expand the post.

Windows XP and Vista

Click on Start… Run… (for XP, just Start for Vista), and type in “control userpasswords2″ without quotes.  Hit enter and you will see:

userpasswords2

Uncheck “Users must enter a password…” and click on Apply.  You will see:

confirm

Type in your password twice and click OK.

Windows 7

Same procedure as above, but the executable to get to this is “netplwiz”.
