Kill the apostophe quick find in Firefox

Filed under: Technical — admin @ 12:09 am

OK, so this is a big fat pain in the ass.  You go to type the apostrohpe in Firefox (‘) when editing a forum post or adding comments to a picture in Facebook, and this “feature” comes up to do a quick search in the bottom of the window of Firefox.  One fix is to resize the window, but ultimately, you need to install the “searchhotkeys” plugin and disable the hot keys.  Download and here:

SearchHotKeys FF Plugin for 3.0-3.5

After downloading, drag and drop the .xpi file onto a Firefox window to install it.  Sorry for the inconvenience, still researching how to deploy FF extensions properly.

Then open a new tab and in the address bar, type in “about:config” without quotes.  Search the filter for “searchkeys.disable.all” and set it to true to disable this annoying “feature”.
